This announcement comes amid escalating tensions in the region, with the Palestinian Hamas militant group launching an unprecedented assault on Israel on October 8th. As of the time of this report, the conflict has resulted in the confirmed deaths of over 1,500 individuals.

In response to calls from various stakeholders, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his appreciation to the Lagos Ministry of Home Affairs for their crucial role in ensuring the safe return of the pilgrims.

He shared this update on his social media page, saying, ‘Good morning Lagos, I’m delighted to inform you that we have successfully brought back all 310 citizens who participated in the pilgrimage to Jerusalem, Israel.

I want to extend my gratitude to everyone for your concern, and I must also commend our Ministry of Home Affairs for their exceptional efforts.’

On Monday, Yoav Gallant, Israel’s Defense Minister, issued orders for a complete siege and blockade on Gaza, a city under Palestinian control.

This move involved the cutoff of essential supplies such as electricity, food, and fuel into Gaza, following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s declaration of war on Hamas. Israel has also intensified its air strikes on Gaza, prompting Hamas to launch a barrage of rockets into Israel from Gaza.

To safeguard against further incursions, Israeli tanks and drones have been deployed to protect breaches in the Gaza border fence.

Additionally, thousands of Israelis from more than a dozen towns near Gaza have been evacuated, and the Israeli military has rapidly mobilized over 300,000 reservists in response to the escalating crisis.”
