In the midst of political turbulence in Rivers State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has made a strategic move by extending an invitation to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, urging him to join their ranks. Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt following the defection of 27 state lawmakers to the APC, Okocha stated, “Wike is a politician whose name shakes and echoes in the society; so nobody can think or say for him if he will defect to APC or not.” While addressing the possible connection between the lawmakers’ defection and Wike’s potential move to the APC, Okocha asserted that it was uncertain and only time would reveal the true intentions.

“I don’t think so. Whatever their reason is, when they get to the bridge they will cross it,” Okocha commented when asked about Wike’s possible affiliation with the APC.

Highlighting Wike’s political influence, Okocha acknowledged the significant role he played in the APC’s victory in the state during the 2023 elections. He urged Wike to consider joining the APC, emphasizing that the party currently holds the reins of government.

“In 2023, he immensely aided the victory of APC in the state. The best thing we are asking him to do is to come and join the APC because it is the government in power,” Okocha stated.

The invitation to Wike marks a notable development in the ever-evolving political landscape of Rivers State. As the situation unfolds, political observers and the public at large will be keenly watching to see if the Minister of the FCT will accept the APC’s overture and make a decisive move in the political chessboard of Rivers State.
