Police officers from the Anambra State Command have been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing a 24-year-old man named Ebuka during a patrol along the Onitsha/Owerri Road on Wednesday, September 4.

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who shared the tragic incident online, revealed that the officers went into hiding after the alleged shooting. According to him, Ebuka was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body has since been deposited at the mortuary.

In response to the incident, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, ordered the immediate detention of the patrol team involved. A statement from the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that preliminary investigations have identified a police corporal as one of the officers on the team.

CP Itam has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for further investigation. He urged the public to remain calm, assuring that a thorough investigation will be conducted to ensure justice is served.
