Anambra Horror: N15m Paid, But Abducted Chief Still Killed By Gunmen

The Nimo community in Anambra’s Njikoka Local Government has been plunged into sorrow and anger over the cold-blooded murder of respected elder and titleholder, High Chief Ogbuefi Ozo Nnayelugo na Nimo, widely known as High Chief Gbafankiti na Nimo.

The revered elder statesman and member of the esteemed Nimo Royal Cabinet was abducted by suspected kidnappers while working on his farm.

Eyewitnesses reported that masked gunmen stormed the premises, triggering chaos as farm workers fled in fear, leaving the High Chief defenseless. He was forcibly taken away at gunpoint.

Despite the family allegedly paying a ransom of ₦15 million to secure his release, the assailants callously murdered him. His lifeless body, bearing severe machete wounds to the head, was later discovered in the same farmland where he had been abducted—an act that has stunned and devastated the entire community.

A local source condemned the killing as “barbaric and senseless,” expressing deep sorrow that even after the ransom was delivered, the attackers still took the life of such a respected figure.

Security forces have since cordoned off the area, with investigations now underway to apprehend those responsible for the crime. However, the Anambra State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement as of press time.

The late High Chief Gbafankiti na Nimo was admired for his wisdom, generosity, and unwavering dedication to peace and progress in the Nimo community.

His brutal and untimely death has left a gaping wound in the hearts of residents, many of whom describe it as an irreplaceable loss. The community is now calling on law enforcement agencies and the Anambra State Government to ensure justice is served and to take swift action to curb the rising wave of violent crimes in the area.
