Anambra Must Be Excluded From N4bn Theft Charges Against Ex-Gov Obiano, EFCC Insists....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has advised former Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, to keep the state government separate from the N4 billion corruption charges leveled against him. During proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the anti-graft agency asserted that the Anambra State Government’s involvement was irrelevant to the alleged fraud charges and would not impact the ongoing legal proceedings.
The EFCC specifically stated that the lawsuit filed by Anambra State, contesting the investigation into the state’s finances, held no sway over the corruption charges. Obiano had submitted a motion on March 3, seeking the dismissal of the charges against him. In his motion, he argued that the Anambra State government was currently challenging the EFCC’s authority to investigate and prosecute him in an appeal pending at the Court of Appeal.
The motion highlighted, “There is an appeal at the Court of Appeal filed by the Anambra State Government challenging the powers of the EFCC to investigate the security vote of the Anambra State Government.” Obiano urged the court to dismiss the charges, asserting that it lacked the necessary jurisdiction to address matters related to the accountability of security votes funds.
Former governor Obiano, facing nine charges related to the alleged theft of N4 billion, was arraigned on January 24. The EFCC emphasized that the legal proceedings should remain focused on the specific charges against Obiano, independent of the state government’s appeals and challenges regarding the investigation.
