The accused, a nursing mother, has reportedly agreed to rectify the situation by opening a fixed deposit of N500,000, designating the minor as the beneficiary. Failing to comply with this arrangement would result in legal action against the culprit. The incident was confirmed in a post on February 6, 2024.

Following discussions held during a meeting, the following decisions were made:

1. Both the husband and the accused will commit to an undertaking, pledging not to employ underage househelps in the future.
2. Instead of pursuing immediate legal action, considering the accused is breastfeeding and lacks familial support, an agreement was reached for her to open a fixed deposit of N500,000, with the victim set to access the funds upon reaching 18 years of age. The initial proposed amount was N2 million, but a settlement was reached for N500,000. This transaction is set to take place by the upcoming Saturday.
3. The husband has also committed to providing educational support for the victim, ensuring her access to university education.

Despite the advice from the National Legal Adviser, Barrister SYZ Orlando, to formalize the agreement in a court of law, the parties involved opted for the aforementioned resolutions during their meeting. However, the legal course of action remains as an alternative.

Additionally, as a gesture of support, a contribution of N30,000 was provided to the victim’s mother for the child’s upkeep. The victim was subsequently handed over to her mother in an official capacity. The next meeting is scheduled for the upcoming Saturday to finalize the undertaking and gather evidence of the fixed deposit.
