Anambra State In Shock As Former Information Commissioner Maja Umeh Passes On

Maja Umeh, who served as the Commissioner for Information under Peter Obi’s administration in Anambra State, has passed away.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

He died at the Emergency Ward of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH) in Amaku-Awka, the capital of Anambra State. In the wake of his passing, close family members and notable personalities from across the state gathered at the hospital where his remains are currently kept.

Among the visitors were Professor Ken Nwogu, husband of former Anambra Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice under the Willie Obiano administration, Mrs. Uju Nwogu, as well as senior officials from the government of the current state governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo.

In a separate development, Helen Owie, the wife of former Senate Chief Whip Senator Rowland Owie, has also died.

According to a statement personally signed by her husband on Wednesday, April 9, Helen passed away peacefully in Abuja following a brief illness. She was 71 years old.

Reflecting on their over 50-year marriage, Senator Owie wrote:
“When Helen entered my life more than five decades ago, she turned our home into a sanctuary of love and unity. She embraced my late mother, Aghatise Owie—who bore 11 children for my father, with me being the sole survivor—with boundless compassion and respect.”

He described her as a woman of deep faith, a devoted wife and mother, and a careful steward of the home. “Helen’s devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, her humility, kindness, and lifelong commitment to service were hallmarks of her existence,” he added. “She was my anchor, my solace, and my unwavering companion through life. Her quiet resilience and unshakable faith were the bedrock of our family.”
