Enough Is Enough! Labour Unions Rise In Protest Against Injustice At Steel Ministry

In a bold demonstration of dissatisfaction, members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) took to the streets on Thursday morning, staging a protest at the Ministry of Steel Development Complex in Wuse 2, Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The protesting union members voiced strong concerns over the deteriorating working conditions in the ministry, demanding improved welfare packages for employees. They also decried what they described as unjust dismissals and ongoing suppression of workers’ rights to unionize.

Led by Eche Asuzu, the demonstrators blocked the ministry’s main entrance, effectively preventing staff from entering the premises.

Brandishing placards and singing solidarity songs, the workers accused the Federal Government of ignoring their welfare and demanded immediate action, including fair and equitable compensation.

Tinubu Appoints New MD for Ajaokuta Steel Company

Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Nasir Naeem Abdulsalam as the new Managing Director of Ajaokuta Steel Company.

According to a statement released on Friday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information & Public Relations for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the appointment took effect from April 3, 2025.

Abdulsalam previously served as the Technical Adviser to the Minister of Steel Development and was also the Special Assistant (Academics) to the Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).
