Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are set to meet in one of boxing’s most anticipated heavyweight showdowns after their December 11 clash was confirmed for Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.

The all-British encounter, which has been discussed for years, is expected to attract global attention and will be broadcast worldwide on Netflix.

According to Bush Radio Academy, organisers are considering a late start time for the event, with the possibility of the main fight taking place in the early hours of Saturday in the United Kingdom. The proposed schedule is intended to make the bout more accessible to viewers in the United States.

The build-up to the blockbuster contest is scheduled to begin with a joint news conference involving Joshua and Fury in London on September 30.

The promotion of the fight will be handled through a collaboration involving Turki Alalshikh’s The Ring and UFC president Dana White.

Alalshikh described the contest as a meeting between two of the leading heavyweights of their generation and expressed satisfaction that the long-awaited fight had finally been arranged.

Joshua, 36, has previously expressed his preference for having the contest staged in the United Kingdom and is now set to face Fury on home soil. Fury, 38, has yet to make a public comment on the announcement.

Several venues had reportedly been considered, including Wembley Stadium in London and Madison Square Garden in New York, before Cardiff emerged as the selected location.

The Principality Stadium has a history of hosting major boxing events, including Joe Calzaghe’s victory over Mikkel Kessler in 2007, which began in the early hours of the morning.

Officials from the Welsh Rugby Union and Cardiff Council have welcomed the event, noting that the high-profile contest could further strengthen Cardiff’s reputation as a major sporting destination while generating significant economic activity for the city.

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, also expressed appreciation to British boxing fans for their support in helping bring the long-awaited contest to the United Kingdom.

White said the fight had been anticipated by boxing fans for more than a decade, noting that Joshua and Fury bring a combined record of 66 victories, 52 knockouts and multiple heavyweight world titles into the ring.

With the date, venue and global broadcast now confirmed, attention will turn to the September 30 news conference as both fighters begin the official build-up to their December 11 heavyweight encounter.
