At a recent press conference, CAAT’s convener, Okwa Dan, also called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest and prosecute those involved in this purported economic sabotage.

“Matrix Energy Limited and its CEO, Abdulkadir Adisa Aliu, have sought a court order to prevent media outlets from reporting on their oil importation activities,” Dan said. “This attempt contradicts Section 22 of the Nigerian Constitution, which guarantees the press’s freedom to uphold government accountability, and Section 39, which protects freedom of expression and access to information.”

Dan emphasized that Nigerians have the right to information on issues affecting them, particularly concerning contaminated petrol that harms the economy, environment, and public health.

CAAT also urged the FCCPC to probe Matrix Oil for consumer harm, citing economic losses due to damaged vehicles and generators. Additionally, the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) was called upon to assess the environmental impact of the tainted oil and to enforce penalties on the responsible parties.

Recently, Matrix Energy denied allegations involving Abdulkabir Aliu, the company’s founder, stating that their products meet approved standards and no customer complaints have been reported. The company asserted that the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) regulates their imports, and their products consistently meet regulatory specifications. Matrix Energy also highlighted the strong demand for their products, which they attribute to their commitment to quality.
