APC Accuses Governor Yusuf Of Using Emirship Dispute To Divert Attention From Failures

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Abdullahi Abbas, has responded to remarks made by the Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Hashimu Dungurawa, regarding President Bola Tinubu’s lack of intervention in the state’s emirate dispute. Dungurawa urged President Tinubu to act and ensure the banishment of the deposed Emir, Ado Bayero, from Kano. He made this call while addressing journalists at his Lugard House office on Sunday, stressing that the ongoing emirate crisis is tarnishing the President’s reputation and that it is time for him to take decisive action.

In response, Abbas issued a statement on Monday in Abuja, countering Dungurawa’s remarks by asserting that the APC is now more united and popular in Kano and will secure three times the votes it garnered in the last presidential election. Abbas predicted that Governor Abba Yusuf and the NNPP’s national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, would be defeated in the 2027 election due to their governance approach.

Abbas criticized Governor Yusuf for using the emirate dispute to distract from his administration’s failures. He stated, “The crisis of confidence rocking the factionalised opposition NNPP and its embattled leader, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, is embarrassingly exposing its dismal failure, even as it boasts of clinching the nation’s presidency come 2027.”

He further assured President Tinubu and the APC national leadership that the Kano State APC is more unified and continuously attracting new supporters. Abbas emphasized that the poor performance of the Governor Yusuf-led NNPP government and the party’s role in fostering crises and implementing anti-people policies will influence voters in the next election.

Abbas concluded, “While other state governors are commissioning projects to mark one year in office, the NNPP Kano State government is busy distracting the good people of Kano from its obvious failures through the contentious emirate law, as a tactic to cover up its inadequacies in office.”
