APC Announces Kano Local Government Elections As Unlawful
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has declared the local government elections conducted by the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) on Saturday as illegal, citing an existing court ruling. APC leader Rabi’u Bichi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that a Federal High Court order from Justice Simon Amobede, issued in Kano, nullifies the election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Bichi asserted that the court found KANSIEC’s leadership biased in favor of the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), thus compromising the commission’s integrity. “The court order by Justice Simon Amobede still stands, rendering the election null and void,” he stated.
He highlighted a recent Federal High Court ruling that disqualified all NNPP chairmanship candidates in the local government elections, further supporting the APC’s claim of the election’s invalidity. Bichi urged APC members to remain patient as the party explores legal options to challenge the election results.
In response, KANSIEC Chairman Prof. Sani Malumfashi insisted that the commission acted lawfully and adhered to proper procedures. He emphasized KANSIEC’s non-partisan stance and instructed staff to prevent corruption, ensure compliance with age requirements, and reject any forms of vote-buying or violence.
Malumfashi also noted that a recent Kano High Court decision affirmed KANSIEC’s authority to conduct the elections, indicating that the process followed was legitimate.
