APC Confident In Edo 2024: Strong Constituency Performances Will Ensure Victory
The Director General of the APC Campaign Organisation, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, asserted yesterday that the performances of the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his running mate, Dennis Idahosa, in their respective senatorial district and federal constituency, will ensure victory in the September 21 governorship election in Edo State.
Speaking to journalists in Benin City, Urhoghide dismissed criticisms from the opposition claiming Okpebholo lacks competence, highlighting his ability to gather competent individuals to lead the party to success in his senatorial election as evidence of his administrative prowess.
He stated, “It is inappropriate for anyone to label our candidate as incompetent at this stage. Even if one were considered inexperienced, the capability to assemble capable individuals demonstrates administrative competence.”
Urhoghide emphasized the electoral achievements of Okpebholo in Edo Central senatorial district and the popularity garnered by the APC under Senator Adams Oshiomhole in Edo North, suggesting a strong foundation for victory. He also noted the popularity of Dennis Idahosa, the incumbent House of Representatives member from Ovia, in his constituency.
Regarding concerns about “federal might,” Urhoghide downplayed its significance, citing his personal experience of winning elections despite facing candidates supported by the federal government. He affirmed the APC’s commitment to a merit-based election process, confident that their candidates will triumph based on their track record and accomplishments.
The campaign director concluded, “We will approach this election based on merit, ensuring our candidates’ victory through their proven capabilities and achievements.
