In a surprising turn of events, a robbery suspect, Amos Daniel, 36, was apprehended by the Lagos State Police Command for stealing his employer’s vehicle on his first day as a driver and subsequently using it to give a testimony at his church about God’s blessings.
The suspect confessed to the theft, revealing that he had planned to use the stolen Lexus for Uber rides to pay off debts. He took the vehicle on June 23, 2024, the same day he started his new job, and presented it at his church on June 30, 2024.
Meanwhile, the police also arrested two dismissed soldiers, Akeem Suleiman and Abdulau Mohammed, along with two civilians, for their involvement in a car-snatching gang operating in Lagos. The gang members, disguised in military attire, reportedly targeted motorists at gunpoint, particularly in the Ajah area.
SP Benjamin Hudenyin, the command’s spokesperson, emphasized the importance of conducting thorough background checks on prospective employees, such as drivers and domestic staff, using resources like the Central Criminal Registry at the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon, and forensic units. He warned against negligence in vetting employees to prevent incidents of theft and other criminal activities.
The suspects will face charges in court as investigations continue into their criminal activities.
