While the election was peaceful across 13,325 polling units, it was marked by low voter turnout. However, there were few reports of violence or disruptions throughout the process.
A total of 57 Chairmanship/Vice Chairmanship positions and 376 Councillorship seats were up for grabs. Of the 19 registered political parties, 15 fielded candidates, but only the APC contested in all LGAs and wards.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) participated in 45 councils and 259 wards, while the Labour Party (LP) competed in 22 LGAs and 130 wards.
In Lagos Island LGA, APC’s Taiwo Oyekan was declared winner with 28,385 votes, vastly outpacing PDP’s Ajibade Olusegun, who secured 1,271 votes. Other parties recorded marginal figures.
In Amuwo-Odofin, APC’s Prince Lanre Sanusi (PLS) won decisively with 24,926 votes, defeating LP’s Seyi Ipinlaye, who managed 1,962 votes. Party leaders described the win as “historic,” attributing it to intensive grassroots mobilization.
In Agege LGA, APC’s Tunde Azeez, known as “Disco,” clinched victory with 31,503 votes, far surpassing his closest competitors from APM and ZLP, who polled just 86 and 10 votes, respectively.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu issued a statement titled “Thank You, Lagos For Peaceful Local Government Elections,” expressing gratitude to residents for their orderly participation.
“I sincerely thank Lagosians who came out to perform their civic duty. Your conduct reaffirms our collective belief in democracy and responsible leadership,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
He also praised security agencies, media personnel, and LASIEC officials for their role in conducting a credible and peaceful election.
The governor urged political actors and supporters to remain calm and avoid provocative behavior, stressing the importance of peaceful political engagement as Lagos prepares for the 2027 general elections.
With more results expected soon, early indicators suggest the APC will continue its firm control over Lagos State’s local government system.
