In a statement released by the Directorate, the party commended the IGP’s decisive move to ban the Edo State Security Network (ESN), which it described as a tool used by Governor Godwin Obaseki to intimidate voters. The APC also praised the deployment of 35,000 police officers across the state, highlighting this as a critical measure to ensure a peaceful and secure election process.
According to the APC, Obaseki’s recruitment of over 11,000 personnel into the ESN was an attempt to cause chaos during the elections, and the ban on the network is a step toward protecting the democratic rights of Edo citizens. The Directorate expressed its relief that its earlier calls for the ESN’s disbandment were heeded, emphasizing that this move will help thwart plans to manipulate the election.
The APC further hailed the deployment of 35,000 officers as a reassuring development, noting that it will allow citizens to vote without fear of intimidation or violence. The Directorate expressed confidence that with such strong security measures, the elections will be conducted fairly, allowing Edo voters to decide the future of their state freely.
The statement concluded by lauding the IGP for setting a standard of leadership that prioritizes the protection of democracy, stating that the police force remains a vital pillar in safeguarding the nation’s democratic process.
