It was reported that during a Labour Party campaign in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, Alex Otti urged the incumbent governor, Hope Uzodimma, to begin preparing his handover note in anticipation of an impending defeat at the polls.

However, in response to this, Shuaibu, a prominent member of the APC, held a press conference in Abuja and cautioned Otti against involving himself in Imo State politics ahead of the November 11 governorship election.

Shuaibu questioned Otti’s audacity in advising Uzodinma to prepare a handover note, firmly asserting that the governor would only hand over to himself.

He also called upon President Bola Tinubu to advise the Governor of Abia State to avoid making statements that could incite turmoil and to refrain from meddling in the affairs of other states.

Additionally, Shuaibu urged politicians and senior statesmen to exercise caution in their statements, as he believed that such unguarded remarks were already creating tension in the lead-up to the November 11 election.

He emphasized, “It is our responsibility to speak truth to those in power, and we will continue to do so until there is a restoration of sanity at all levels of governance in Nigeria.

We find it necessary to bring to the attention of Nigerians the activities of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, who appears to be planning to interfere in the Imo State gubernatorial elections alongside members of the Labour Party.”

“It seems Otti’s objective in Imo is to sponsor violence during the gubernatorial election, potentially causing voters to favor the Labour Party candidate.

How can a newly elected governor, who has yet to fully settle into his office, openly declare that the hardworking governor of Imo State should prepare a handover note? We want to make it clear through this medium that Governor Hope Uzodimma will only hand over to himself and not to the Labour Party.”
