As per the information released by the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare of the state, Rev. Ogo has been deeply involved in unauthorized child adoption operations.

The arrest of Ogo was confirmed in a statement on Wednesday, presented by Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo.

Ikeanyionwu shared that the arrest came to fruition following a detailed investigation led by Fisayo Soyombo, a renowned investigative journalist and the founder of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ). The inquiry led to the recovery of twenty children, which included a newborn, from the care of the accused.

Providing further details, the ministry in their communication to the press in Awka, the state’s capital, conveyed, “The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare handed over Rev D.C. Ogo to NAPTIP officials due to allegations of illicit child adoption.” CONTINUE READING

Addressing the severity of the situation, Commissioner Obinabo expressed her deep disappointment over the tarnished reputation Rev. Ogo has inflicted upon the state, especially considering the government’s persistent efforts to cleanse Anambra State of corrupt adoption practices.

The commissioner sternly cautioned other orphanage operators in the state against engaging in illicit activities that might further defame Anambra.

When questioned about her involvement in the illegal adoption, despite prior warnings, Rev. Ogo couldn’t provide a justified explanation. She instead shifted the responsibility onto her secretary, Mr. Monday, asserting that he managed the adoption affairs.

On being questioned about her prolonged absence post the sealing of the home, Rev. Ogo claimed that health issues prevented her from attending the summons immediately.

The incident has brought to light the severe malpractices occurring at the Arrows of God Community Children’s Home, Nkwelle 33, especially considering the recovery of 20 children from the premises, including a newborn.
