Shaibu and Obaseki had a falling-out due to Shaibu’s ambition to run in the 2024 governorship election and succeed his principal.

This dispute led to Obaseki relocating the deputy governor’s office from the government house, dissolving his media team, and relieving him of his supervisory role over the state’s revenue generation agencies.

During an interview with Daily Independent, Ebhomien expressed his opinion on the conflict between the Edo leaders, stating that it was a needless distraction.

He emphasized that Shaibu should recognize his role as a deputy appointed by Governor Obaseki and act accordingly.

Ebhomien argued that Shaibu displayed ingratitude toward both Obaseki and the people of Edo by pursuing his gubernatorial ambition.

He pointed out that the political dynamics in Edo State involved certain agreements, both formal and informal, that needed to be respected.

Any deviation from these agreements, particularly regarding the rotation of political positions, should be seen as insubordination.

He further clarified that Edo North had previously held the governorship position, as had Edo South with former Governor Lucky Igbinedion and Governor Obaseki.

Therefore, according to Ebhomien, it was now the turn of Edo Central, specifically Esan land, to produce the next governor of Edo State. He concluded that what was deemed suitable for Edo South and Edo North should also be considered fair for Edo Central.
