APC Primaries In Turmoil: Fresh Claim Of Plot To ‘Ambush The President’ Shakes Party Process
Some aggrieved aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will step into the crisis surrounding the party’s primaries before the results are submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The aspirants, who spoke to Sunday Punch, said the President must be properly informed about what truly transpired during the primaries.
An aspirant in Lagos State, who requested anonymity, alleged that certain influential figures within the party were preventing President Tinubu from getting an accurate picture of the situation.
He blamed internal caucus politics for the outcome of the primaries, insisting that the President would naturally be concerned about developments in Lagos.
According to him, “These issues did not just start today, but in Lagos, the President will definitely be interested. Some powers that be are trying to ambush the President. It is a struggle for influence, and they are working to ensure he does not get the real facts about what happened.
“From what I know of Mr President, even before he became President, he listens to all sides and conducts his own investigations. He would want to know who the most popular aspirant is in each constituency. Because of that, I am confident he will do the right thing.”
Another aspirant cautioned the APC against proceeding with the release of primary results without addressing the grievances raised by party members.
He warned that failure to resolve the internal disputes could weaken the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections.
He added that the ruling party must prioritise unity to allow President Tinubu focus on governance.
“There were massive protests at the party secretariat during the week over the outcome of the primaries. These issues are now very important for the President. With the economic and security challenges facing the country, the ruling party should not be divided. If anyone should give the President peace, it is the APC,” he said.
The aspirant further warned that unresolved grievances could trigger defections or internal sabotage ahead of the elections.
He said, “Some members may leave the party before the election, but the greater danger is those who remain but work against the party from within.
“Some may even become indifferent on election day, and even one person’s indifference can give the opposition an advantage.”
