APC Records Clean Sweep As Party Wins All 17 Chairmanship Seats In Yobe
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 17 chairmanship positions in the Yobe State local government elections conducted across the state on Saturday.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC) announced the results on Sunday at its headquarters in Damaturu, the state capital.
YOSIEC Chairman, Dr Ibrahim Yabani, said the election was conducted across the state’s 17 local government areas and 178 electoral wards, with 10 political parties participating in the exercise.
Yabani described the election as hitch-free and said participating parties fielded candidates for both chairmanship and councillorship positions.
He explained that voting ended on Saturday, after which election officials counted the ballots and collated the results. While councillorship results were announced at the ward level, the chairmanship results were declared at the respective local government collation centres.
The results announced by the commission showed that APC candidates secured victory in all 17 local government areas.
In Bade, Musa Kalan Dagona of the APC polled 54,312 votes, while the party’s candidate in Bursari secured 24,331 votes. Bukar Adamu won in Damaturu with 18,465 votes, while Abdulmumini Usaini emerged victorious in Fika with 61,326 votes.

Despite the APC’s sweep of the 17 chairmanship positions, two opposition parties recorded victories in the councillorship contests.
The African People’s Party secured one councillorship seat in Fune Local Government Area, while the Action Democratic Party won one councillorship seat in Karasuwa.
Yabani said the participation of 10 political parties reflected the level of interest in the local government elections, while the commission proceeded with the declaration of the official results for the 17 councils.
