Tinubu Meets Aggrieved APC Governors Amid Growing Concerns Over Campaign Council

Published

Fresh concerns over the composition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election have reportedly led some governors elected on the party’s platform to engage President Bola Tinubu over their grievances.

According to Bush Radio Academy, sources familiar with the development said some APC governors had either met or sought meetings with the President to discuss concerns over their roles, omissions from the campaign structure and the organisation of campaign activities across their respective states.

The development comes weeks after the APC unveiled its 223-member Presidential Campaign Council, with President Tinubu as chairman, Vice President Kashim Shettima as vice chairman, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda as another vice chairman, former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari as Director-General and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as secretary.

The sources reportedly said some governors were dissatisfied with the roles assigned to them or their absence from key positions within the campaign structure. They were also said to have raised concerns about how the presidential campaign would be coordinated at the state and grassroots levels.

According to the reports, some of the governors had separately sought discussions with Tinubu, while others were considering another collective meeting with the President to push for adjustments to the campaign structure.

The concerns follow an earlier meeting between Tinubu and APC governors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on August 27, shortly after the campaign council was unveiled. The agenda of that meeting was not publicly disclosed at the time.

The campaign council’s composition had already generated criticism from some party stakeholders, with the Presidency previously indicating that adjustments could be made where necessary. Reports at the time said some APC National Working Committee members and support groups were unhappy about their roles or exclusion from strategic positions.

Beyond the campaign council, the governors are also reportedly concerned about the activities of a cross-party political coalition and its possible implications for APC structures in various states ahead of the 2027 elections.

The issue has become part of wider discussions among APC stakeholders as party leaders seek to maintain coordination and control of their political structures ahead of the polls.

The reported concerns come amid broader disagreements within the APC over campaign strategy and political alliances. In September, APC governors publicly opposed political arrangements they said could weaken the party or affect the electoral fortunes of its candidates, particularly in connection with the proposed Rainbow Coalition.
