The All Progressives Congress (APC) is in the process of filling vacant positions within its National Working Committee (NWC) by nominating candidates from various zonal and state chapters. These nominees are currently awaiting approval from the National Executive Committee (NEC) and include several prominent individuals from different states.

Among those nominated is Dr. Stella Odey-Ekpo, the former Commissioner for Local Government in Cross River State, who is being considered for the position of Women Leader. Ali Dalori, who currently serves as the APC Chairman for Borno State, has been put forward as a nominee for the Deputy National Chairman position in the North. Additionally, Prof. Abdulkarim Kana, a former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Nasarawa State, is in contention for the Legal Adviser position.

Other nominees include Martins Azubuike, former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly (Welfare Officer), and Muritala Ajaka, former Special Adviser on Water Resources to the Kogi State Governor (Deputy National Publicity Secretary).

This move to nominate new officers aligns with a directive from the National Executive Committee (NEC) and follows a series of resignations and appointments. Former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje recently assumed the position of National Chairman, while Senator Ajibola Basiru became the National Secretary, succeeding their predecessors.

Apart from addressing the vacancies caused by these transitions, the NWC has also sought replacements for members who were either nominated for ministerial positions by President Bola Tinubu or who had resigned from their roles. This reshuffling reflects the party’s ongoing efforts to ensure a functional and effective leadership team.

The nomination process has been conducted in accordance with the zoning system established prior to the April 2022 National Convention, as outlined in Article 31.5 of the APC Constitution. This system guides the procedure for filling vacancies within the party’s hierarchy.

The selection of nominees has involved collaboration between state chapters and zones, incorporating consultation and endorsement processes. For instance, the Borno State chapter and the Northeast Executive Committee jointly nominated Ali Dalori to replace Senator Abubakar Kyari as Deputy National Chairman (North). Similarly, the Cross River State chapter selected Dr. Stella Odey-Ekpo to succeed Beta Edu as National Women Leader.

As the APC continues to navigate through leadership changes, the nomination process demonstrates the party’s commitment to maintaining a dynamic and robust leadership structure. It is anticipated that the NWC will finalize the appointments for these vacant positions in the coming weeks.
