The assault occurred last Wednesday amidst a declared strike by NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC), leading to the suspension of flights to Imo State ahead of the gubernatorial election.

Uzodinma, initially critical of Ajaero’s presence, expressed regret on Channels TV’s Politics Today, distancing his government from the incident.

He clarified, “I was unaware of the NLC President’s presence in my state,” and emphasized his opposition to violence.

The governor apologized for the occurrence and urged a more civilized approach to future matters.

Despite the apology, the NLC had previously directed aviation unions to blacklist Imo airport and declared Uzodinma persona non-grata in response to the assault.
