According to local resident Joseph Adakole, who identified the deceased as his uncle and cousin, the assailants invaded the community on Thursday evening, indiscriminately opening fire on the victims. He expressed the tragic loss of his relatives, emphasizing the continued vulnerability of the community.

Caretaker Chairman of Otukpo, Alfred Omakwu, reported that the attackers not only claimed two lives but also engaged with the military and security forces deployed to the area. Despite their retreat, the assailants issued threats of a potential return. Omakwu assured that calm has been restored, with an increased military presence since Friday.

He stated, “From Friday, there has been calm, and the military presence has increased. But we are still receiving threats from them. Two of our youths were killed on Thursday. At the point of their entry into the community, they engaged those ones and the military too.”

However, Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Catherine Anene, mentioned that she has not received official information regarding the recent developments in the area. The situation highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in the region, as they grapple with the persistent threat of armed attacks.
