A military insider disclosed that the general is currently in custody as the investigation unfolds. “Brigade matters are strictly handled by the Army Headquarters, not the Defence Headquarters, as some have speculated. The general has been removed due to allegations from soldiers claiming he withheld entitlements meant for them, among other issues. He has been invited for questioning and remains in custody,” the source stated.

When contacted for further details, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, referred inquiries to Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations. Major General Nwachukwu confirmed the ongoing investigation, highlighting “administrative discrepancies” during Brigadier General Sadiq’s tenure that necessitated his removal to facilitate a comprehensive inquiry.

He emphasized that the Nigerian Army, founded on principles of discipline and accountability, maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any conduct that undermines its values. “The immediate past Commander of 3 Brigade Kano, Brigadier General M.A. Sadiq, is undergoing a military investigation regarding administrative discrepancies during his command. As a result, he has been relieved of his position to ensure a thorough investigation,” Nwachukwu stated.

He assured that the Army would conduct a thorough investigation and that any verified misconduct would result in appropriate consequences. “The Nigerian Army is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency. We assure both our internal and external audiences that the allegations will be investigated thoroughly, and the process will be fair, impartial, and in accordance with established procedures,” Nwachukwu affirmed.
