Operatives from the State Intelligence Department (SID) of the Bauchi Police Command apprehended Mustapha Tahiti, a 35-year-old medical recorder at the Kofar Ran Maternity clinic in Bauchi. The arrest follows credible intelligence received by the department, leading to suspicions of Tahiti’s involvement in a plot to murder his cousin and the cousin’s wife, as disclosed by the Command’s spokesperson, Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, in a statement issued on Thursday.
According to Wakil, the arrest took place on March 6, 2024, and during the subsequent interrogation, Tahiti admitted to the alleged crime. He confessed to filling a syringe with an insecticide chemical purchased for the purpose of forcibly administering it to the intended victims. The suspect also revealed his intention to rob the victims of their valuables after carrying out the planned murders. A syringe containing the insecticide chemical has been recovered as evidence.
The statement further outlined the motive behind the crime, uncovering that Tahiti harbored resentment towards the victim for marrying his late elder brother’s widow, whom he deeply cared for and desired to wed himself. Despite several warnings from Tahiti to dissuade the victim from marrying the widow, his advice was consistently ignored. The suspect’s grudge over the failed romantic pursuit ultimately culminated in the sinister plot to eliminate his cousin and his wife.
