According to authorities, Emeka, accompanied by a group of men, purportedly assaulted the victim to death in Abarikpo community, Ahoada East Local Government Area. The incident followed a prior dispute between Emeka and the deceased on February 12, 2023.
Sources indicate that during the altercation, Emeka orchestrated the abduction of Chigbewejim, who was five months pregnant at the time. She was taken to an undisclosed location where Emeka and his accomplices allegedly committed the heinous act.
Emeka fled the community upon learning of the police’s pursuit. However, law enforcement succeeded in apprehending him 15 months later, tracing his whereabouts.
Lawyer Steward, Chigbewejim’s husband and a pastor in Abarikpo, expressed relief at Emeka’s arrest while urging authorities to ensure justice prevails. Steward recounted the tragic events of the night his wife was taken, highlighting the brutality she endured.
Chigbewejim’s lifeless body was discovered near a fishing pond shortly after her abduction, bearing signs of physical trauma and assault.
The Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed Emeka’s arrest, stating that investigations are ongoing. Emeka is currently in police custody, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department for further action
