Arrest Ordered For Man Accused Of Abandoning Wife, Child In Akwa Ibom For Affair With Side Chick

The Akwa Ibom State High Court, located in Uyo, has issued a warrant for the arrest of Mr. Itoro Monday Uko, a resident of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, on grounds of contempt of court.

Mr. Uko allegedly abandoned his wife and their two-year-old daughter in their village to cohabit with his girlfriend in Ikot Ekpene Town.

The decision came from Justice Ntong Ntong after hearing the plea from Barrister Ekom Friday Inwang, representing the applicant and mother of the child. The absence of both Mr. Uko and his legal representation prompted the judge’s action.

According to Mrs. Itoro Uko, a teacher in a private school from Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Mr. Uko not only neglected his duties as a father but also failed to reimburse a loan of N200,000 she obtained for him to repair his car since March 2022.

She detailed the deteriorating state of their marriage, citing instances of physical abuse resulting in miscarriages and lack of support during her medical emergencies. Despite her efforts to reconcile, Mr. Uko allegedly persisted in infidelity and violence, leading her in-laws to advise her to seek refuge with her parents for safety.

The applicant’s counsel requested the court to enforce the order issued on April 6, 2023, leading to Justice Ntong authorizing the arrest and detention of Mr. Itoro Monday Uko. The order directs the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, along with the Divisional Police Officer of Ikot Ekpene Division, to ensure Mr. Uko’s apprehension and appearance in court.
