Police are actively pursuing Mrs. Dupe Onitiri-Abiola, suspected of backing the breach of the Oyo State Government Secretariat in Ibadan by Yoruba Nation agitators.

The search for Mrs. Onitiri-Abiola, widow of the late Chief Moshood Abiola, commenced following the circulation of a viral video wherein she purportedly claimed responsibility for the violence on April 13.

Clad in military-style attire, the armed agitators infiltrated the Oyo State House of Assembly complex within the secretariat premises, raising their flag on Saturday morning. Despite attempting to breach the governor’s office security, they were thwarted by law enforcement.

Subsequently, 21 individuals among the agitators were apprehended. Police Commissioner Adebola Hamzat, during the suspects’ public presentation on April 15, denounced the invasion as criminal, unpatriotic, and tantamount to treasonable felony and terrorism, vowing appropriate penalties.

While not explicitly naming Mrs. Onitiri-Abiola, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, Special Adviser to the Oyo State Governor on Security Matters, acknowledged her reputed leadership of a Yoruba Nation agitation faction. He emphasized her historical involvement in separatist causes and advocated security reform and youth engagement to preclude future unrest.

Prof. Banji Akintoye, leader of another Yoruba group alongside Sunday “Igboho” Adeyemo, distanced his faction from the incident, implicating Mrs. Onitiri-Abiola’s group.

A subsequent viral video purportedly featuring Mrs. Onitiri-Abiola further affirmed her alleged leadership role.

The Oyo State Police Commissioner disclosed that the detained suspects have divulged information about their sponsors, leading to the recovery of incriminating evidence from various Oyo State locations.

He implored parents and leaders to dissuade youth from disruptive activities, stressing the imperative of collective action in safeguarding both state and nation.
