Aso Rock Speaks On Tinubu’s Meeting With Trump, Debunks Sanction Rumours
The Presidency has provided an update regarding the anticipated meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and United States President Donald Trump.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Monday, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, expressed confidence that the meeting between both leaders would take place soon.
Bwala said, “President Tinubu and President Trump will hopefully meet — whether at the White House or the State House. It could happen at any time. In diplomacy, protocol is everything. When building sensitive engagements, discretion and respect for process are essential.”
He emphasized that the government would not succumb to public pressure to disclose details of ongoing diplomatic discussions, stressing that confidentiality is a vital part of international relations.
Addressing speculations about possible U.S. sanctions, Bwala dismissed the rumours, noting that punitive measures would only hurt ordinary Nigerians rather than the government.
“If sanctions are imposed, it is Nigerians who will feel the impact. President Trump is not someone who holds grudges — he says his mind, and afterward, things normalize. The Nigerian government has taken his message in good faith and is already addressing the concerns. We will soon begin to see positive outcomes,” he said.
This marks the second time Bwala has reaffirmed that a meeting between Tinubu and Trump is in the works, following the U.S. president’s controversial comments threatening military intervention in Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.
