Aso Rock Vs El-Rufai: Fury Erupts Over Sh*cking ‘Life President’ Allegation

The Presidency has dismissed recent remarks by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, describing them as the desperate outbursts of a man unsettled by the growing political influence of President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said El-Rufai was “hallucinating” and in need of help. His response followed El-Rufai’s claim that Tinubu could attempt to remain in power for life if Nigerians do not unite to vote him out in 2027.

Onanuga countered that the former governor’s statement was yet another failed effort to undermine the President, stressing that Nigerians, particularly in the North, had continued to show overwhelming support for Tinubu—contrary to the picture painted by El-Rufai and his allies.

He further clarified that Tinubu remains a democrat with no ambition of staying beyond the constitutionally guaranteed two terms. Describing El-Rufai’s “life presidency” claim as baseless and absurd, Onanuga insisted that the President intends to serve only until May 28, 2031, should he win re-election in 2027.

“Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai seems to require help, given his recent unfounded claims about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It is obvious that he and his associates have realised the futility of their plot to stop Tinubu’s re-election in 2027—a mission doomed from the start.

“After witnessing the rousing welcome Tinubu received in Kaduna last Friday, El-Rufai was clearly shocked by the extent of Northern support for the President. In frustration, he resorted to spreading falsehoods, including the laughable claim that Tinubu intends to become a ‘life president,’” Onanuga stated.

He further urged Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani to reach out to his predecessor, suggesting that El-Rufai could benefit from professional counselling to address his “hallucinations and political fabrications.”
