Drama as Rita Edochie Declares: ‘Any Woman Who Becomes a Second Wife Is a Witch Nigerians React

Nollywood veteran, Rita Edochie, has sparked heated reactions online after condemning women who agree to become second wives.

On Sunday, September 21, 2025, the actress took to her Instagram page to share a video of a cleric preaching against women who marry already-taken men, labeling such unions as ungodly and destructive to families.

Edochie, who has consistently shown support for May, the estranged wife of actor Yul Edochie, echoed the preacher’s message and went further to give her own perspective.

According to her, women who willingly take the role of second wives are driven by greed and selfishness, not love or destiny, insisting that their actions bring pain to other women and destroy homes.

She stressed that becoming a second wife is not a position of honour but one that only invites regret, sorrow, and stigma.

In her words:
“You’re a second wife, you are nothing but a witch. You are not innocent, you are not special, you are just greedy. You chose to feed on another woman’s tears and build happiness on her pain. Do not call it love—it is wickedness. Do not call it destiny—it is covetousness. You stole what was not yours and expect to be celebrated? Never. A second wife is not a queen; she is a usurper, a thief sneaking into another woman’s home under the guise of being a bride.”
