Atiku’s aide further stated that the recent warning from the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to take action against Arise Television was just the beginning of a broader strategy to influence the media landscape.

He pointed out that the NBC had been closely monitoring media outlets aligned with the President, such as Television Continental (TVC), which consistently launched critical attacks against Atiku and refused to air opposing viewpoints.

Shaibu emphasized the notable hypocrisy of the Tinubu government, emphasizing that the Nigerian media should remain steadfast and not display any vulnerability as they anticipate the release of FBI documents that will expose the details of the investigation into Tinubu.

He stated, “In February, the NBC made an attempt to demonstrate some fairness by imposing fines on TVC for unprofessional broadcasts, including the airing of the APC Presidential Campaign Council’s Joint Media Directorate press briefing where Festus Keyamo accused Obasanjo and Atiku of running a criminal enterprise and an empire of fraud in Abuja.”

“However, since Tinubu assumed the presidency on May 29, the NBC has shown even stronger partisan inclinations. NBC’s director-general, Balarabe Ilelah, appears to be vying to secure his position and is now aligning with the APC and their leader at the Presidential Villa.”

“The NBC has now been enlisted in a larger scheme to stifle the media’s coverage of Tinubu’s certificate scandal. Failing to gain public opinion in their favor, they are attempting to utilize state powers to intimidate the media into silence. This is indeed disheartening, especially for someone who once claimed to be a hero of the June 12 struggle.”
