Auchi Polytechnic Celebrates 61st Anniversary and Convocation with Minister Momoh Unveiling Landmark Projects(Video)
Auchi Polytechnic, a premier institution in technical and vocational education, concluded its 61st-anniversary celebrations with the 26th to 29th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, November 16, 2024. The Honorable Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, FNSE, representing the Visitor to the Polytechnic, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, led the commissioning of several infrastructure projects. These include the newly reconstructed main campus gate, the Auchi Polytechnic Microfinance Bank, the Area 2 Lecture Theatre, the Centre for Innovation and Skills Acquisition, the extension of the Cottage Hospital, the School of Engineering Technology Lecture Theatre, and the Table Water Factory.
Speaking during the commissioning, Engr. Momoh commended Auchi Polytechnic for its longstanding tradition of academic and infrastructural excellence. He noted that institutions like Auchi Polytechnic are pivotal to driving regional and national development.
“As the Minister of Regional Development, I am committed to ensuring that every region of Nigeria thrives. Auchi Polytechnic stands out as a beacon of technical education, producing skilled graduates who are vital for industrial growth, job creation, and technological advancement,” Momoh said.
He also highlighted several infrastructural interventions he facilitated during his time in the National Assembly and as Minister, including the construction of solar streetlights on campus, a pedestrian bridge, and major road rehabilitations within the Polytechnic’s vicinity.
The convocation ceremony celebrated thousands of graduates from various disciplines, preparing them to make meaningful contributions to Nigeria’s development. In his address, the Minister urged the graduates to embrace innovation and become problem-solvers, creators, and leaders in their communities.
During the event, the Polytechnic recognized eminent Nigerians for their outstanding achievements and contributions to national development. Among the honorees were Prof. Samson Duna, Director-General of the Nigeria Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI); Apostle Johnson Suleman, President of Omega Fire Ministries International; Chief Dan Orbih, Chairman of Setraco; Chief Abu Inu-Omoru, an industrialist and agricultural pioneer; and Dr. Olusegun Olugboyegun, Chairman of JOF.
Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Salisu Umar, expressed his gratitude to the Federal Government, the Polytechnic’s board, and stakeholders for their unwavering support in advancing the institution’s mission. “Our commitment to excellence and innovation remains unshaken. These projects and recognitions reflect the growth trajectory of Auchi Polytechnic,” he stated.
