NLTF Empowers Taraba Farmers with Water-Pumping Machines to Boost Dry-Season Agriculture

The National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF) has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to driving agricultural growth and rural empowerment in Nigeria. In a groundbreaking initiative, the NLTF donated 25 water-pumping machines to farmers in Taraba State to enhance dry-season farming. This pilot program is a critical step in addressing irrigation challenges and promoting sustainable agriculture in the North East region.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Executive Secretary/CEO of the NLTF, Comrade Tosin Adeyanju, represented by Mallam Sagir Ahmed Mohd, Assistant Director, Monitoring and Evaluation, highlighted the significance of the initiative. “This donation aligns with our mission to promote good causes for citizens and communities, enhance food security, and reduce poverty across the nation,” he said.

Adeyanju further outlined the agency’s impactful contributions to Taraba State, including the provision of sports equipment to 59 public primary schools, first-aid kits to 9 secondary schools, medical equipment to General Hospital Bali, and empowerment materials for women and youth.

“Irrigation is essential for addressing water scarcity, boosting crop yields, and building resilience against climate change,” Adeyanju noted. “These machines will empower farmers to increase productivity and income, ultimately improving their quality of life.”

The NLTF also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose Renewed Hope agenda prioritizes agricultural transformation and inclusive growth. “President Tinubu’s vision inspires us to work tirelessly in fostering economic development and social progress,” Adeyanju remarked.

Local stakeholders praised the initiative, with Hon. Nassir Muhammed, representing the Gassol Local Government Chairman, describing the program as “revolutionary” for agriculture in the region. Farmer representative Mohammed Lawali Lau echoed this sentiment, emphasizing how the machines will enable year-round farming, improve livelihoods, and contribute to national food security.

This landmark gesture reaffirms the NLTF’s dedication to driving change in rural communities, reinforcing its reputation as a champion of development and a promoter of impactful initiatives nationwide.
