The arrests took place as part of a routine stop and search operation conducted by the monitoring unit of the Command on the Benin-Lagos Road near Ovia River. The suspects, residents of Lagos, were intercepted while transporting the stolen vehicle, bearing the registration number JJJ 50 HM, to Abia State for delivery to a woman.

Nwabuzor stated that upon inspecting the vehicle, which had a driver and a passenger on board, the police discovered that it was reported stolen by the owner in Lagos. The suspects, residing at Saleh Bus Stop by Chisco Motor in Lagos State, admitted during interrogation that they received the vehicle from an individual named John for the purpose of delivering it to a woman in Abia State.

To verify the ownership, the police contacted the phone number listed on the vehicle documents, and the person who answered confirmed that the car had indeed been stolen from him in Lagos. The Command’s spokesperson emphasized that the suspects would be handed over to the law enforcement authorities in Lagos, where the crime was originally committed.

In an interview with the media, one of the apprehended suspects, Onah, explained that he was contracted by a person named John to transport the vehicle to a woman in Abia State. He identified James as his brother, who was accompanying him as an escort during the delivery.
