In connection with the tragic murder of female police inspector Christiana Erekere, the Rivers State Police Command has apprehended sixteen individuals. Erekere met her untimely demise on Thursday afternoon, April 25, 2024, while on duty in front of Taabaa Police Station in Khanna Local Government Area.

According to a statement by SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the command’s spokesperson, Erekere was attacked by a group of individuals traveling in a private vehicle, resulting in her death. Initial investigations reveal that the incident unfolded when the group, driving a Lexus sedan, was halted for routine checks at the checkpoint near Taabaa Police Station. However, tensions escalated when the occupants refused to comply with instructions and obstructed the road after completing the necessary checks.

The altercation intensified when the individuals attempted to forcefully seize Erekere’s mobile phone, alleging that she had recorded their disruptive behavior. This led to a violent assault on Erekere, who was struck with stones, causing her to lose consciousness. Despite immediate medical attention and transportation to Nnadum Hospital in Bori, she tragically succumbed to her injuries.

The Rivers State Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident, vowing to apprehend all those involved and ensure they face justice. The command extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased officer and has transferred her remains to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Expressing profound regret over the incident, the Rivers State Police Command reaffirms its dedication to swiftly capturing and holding the perpetrators accountable for their reprehensible actions.
