Authorities Issue Nationwide Manhunt For Suspect In Fatal Stabbing Of Wife, Attempted Murder Of Children

A manhunt is underway in South Africa following a tragic incident where a security guard allegedly stabbed his 36-year-old wife to death and left their two children gravely injured at their home in Mataffin, Mbombela.

According to accounts from neighbors reported by local news outlets, the horrifying scene unfolded when neighbors responded to a distress call from the 14-year-old child. Upon arrival, they found the children alongside their deceased mother, surrounded by pools of blood. The eldest daughter desperately tried to awaken her mother to no avail.

Neighbors revealed a history of domestic disputes, with frequent disturbances involving the parents’ altercations. Despite attempts by neighbors to intervene and discourage the violence witnessed in front of the children, the situation persisted.

One neighbor, Sibusiso Nkosi, recounted how the husband fled the scene after a particularly violent episode, absconding with the house keys, leaving the family behind. Despite efforts by neighbors and law enforcement to locate him, the husband remained at large.

The authorities have identified the husband, Mandla Sibiya, aged 41, as the primary suspect and have appealed to the public for any information regarding his whereabouts. The children, aged four and 14, are currently receiving medical treatment for their injuries.

Provincial police spokesperson Col Donald Mdhluli emphasized the severity of the incident, stating that the husband is wanted for murder and two counts of attempted murder. As the investigation unfolds, authorities have not ruled out the possibility of additional charges being brought against him. Citizens are urged to contact the police if they have any information regarding Sibiya’s location.
