The toxicology examination conducted to ascertain the cause of death of the late music sensation, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, has concluded, following its execution in the United States.

Confirmed by Lagos State counsel Oluwaseun Akinde during proceedings at the coroner’s court in the Ikorodu area of the state in November 2023, the autopsy focusing on the external body of the deceased was finalized, while the toxicology assessment delved into internal factors.

Mohbad, aged 27, passed away on September 12, 2023, triggering widespread speculation about the circumstances surrounding his demise on social media platforms.

In response, the Lagos State Police Command established a 13-member special investigation team on September 18, 2023, to delve into the singer’s death.

According to sources cited by PUNCH, an official from the Lagos State Government revealed that the test results were transmitted to the state’s DNA and Forensic Centre the previous week and subsequently forwarded to the police force earlier this week.

“The toxicology test is now available and has been handed over to the police. While we initially estimated a 10-week timeframe, the results arrived earlier. They were received by the DNA and Forensic Centre last week and promptly dispatched to the police,” stated the unnamed source.

Another police source indicated, “The toxicology report has been received, although it arrived on Monday, its medical terminology is unfamiliar to us. Consequently, it has been referred to the pathologist responsible for the autopsy to interpret and analyze.”

Recall that Richard Somiari, Director of the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, mentioned on March 20 that the toxicology findings would be ready within the following three to four weeks.

During testimony at a coroner’s inquest into the singer’s death, Somiari stated, “We anticipated receiving the initial autopsy outcomes within three to four weeks and then conducting additional verification to confirm the cause of death.”

He added, “We explored various possibilities to investigate the potential involvement of toxins in Mohbad’s death, given the absence of a specified cause.”

Furthermore, Somiari reassured, “We have established stringent protocols for the safekeeping and monitoring of samples sent abroad to ensure the integrity and security of the results.”
