Authorities Launch Probe Into Police Raid On Umuahia Studio

The Director of the media establishment, Mr. Ifeanyi Okali, recounted the incident on Wednesday, revealing that the police personnel forcefully entered his station on Azikiwe road in Umuahia during a live program called “Youths Rendezvous” to apprehend a guest, Mr. Donald Udensi. Okali, who shared video footage of the disturbing occurrence, also claimed that essential equipment such as microphones, a laptop computer, and a camera were damaged within the ABN studio as the police conducted the arrest.

The revelation sparked widespread outrage among media practitioners in Abia State.

In response to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Maureen Chinaka, addressed the matter, stating that the Abia State Police Command is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the viral video. She assured the public that the appropriate measures would be taken once the investigation is concluded and called for calm among the populace.

“We are presently looking into the situation depicted in the video. Rest assured that this matter will be thoroughly investigated, and the necessary actions will be taken. We appeal to the public to remain calm,” Chinaka assured.
