At least six individuals were feared dead following a clash between rival cult factions in Awka, the capital city of Anambra State, on Easter Sunday, March 31.
The confrontation unfolded in the Okpuno area, near Eke Awka Market, Obinagu, and opposite Dike Park, all within the state capital.
According to reports from the area, the victims were en route to various social gatherings, including picnics, when they were ambushed by heavily armed assailants who opened fire indiscriminately.
“Around noon on Sunday, armed men descended on the area, targeting individuals who were on their way to different events,” disclosed a source.
The violence spilled over into neighboring areas, claiming more lives as the armed assailants, believed to be cultists, continued their rampage.
Among those struck by gunfire was a member of staff from the Anambra State Judiciary, identified simply as Nwofor, who was reportedly on his way to a function.
