She made the comment during a recent interview with EE72, where she reflected on her rise to fame, her journey with Mavin Records, and the pressures of life in the spotlight.
According to her, music completely changed the direction of her life.
“If I were not doing music, I would literally be unemployed. I do not even think I would be a content creator. That would be a lot of work. I would just be vibing in my mother’s house, eating my mother’s food,” she said.
The 24-year-old also recounted her excitement when she discovered that Don Jazzy and the Mavin Records team had been listening to her music before officially signing her.
“I was so excited when I found out they were listening to my music. You know who it is,” she added.
Ayra Starr further admitted that fame has its downsides, revealing that she sometimes wishes people knew less about her because she tends to speak too freely in interviews.
“I really wish people knew less about me. Once the camera comes on, I cannot stop talking. And I feel like I overshare,” she said.
Born Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, Ayra Starr was signed to Mavin Records in 2020 after being discovered by Don Jazzy through social media.
Since then, she has become one of Nigeria’s leading music exports, releasing acclaimed projects such as 19 & Dangerous and The Year I Turned 21, while earning several awards and international recognition.
