Breaking: Tinubu Boosts Security At NIPSS Following Security Breach

The attack, which left two soldiers and one police officer dead, prompted urgent federal intervention.

Vice President Kashim Shettima conveyed the President’s directive on Friday during a visit to the institute, where he addressed participants of Senior Executive Course 48 on Tinubu’s behalf.

He said the Federal Government would not take the incident lightly, stressing renewed commitment to protecting critical national institutions and security personnel.

“I come to you with a heavy heart and a firm spirit. A banditry attack on the perimeter of NIPSS claimed the lives of two gallant soldiers and one courageous policeman. To their families, to the Nigerian Armed Forces, and to the Nigeria Police Force, I extend, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government, our deepest condolences,” he said.

He added that the nation mourns the fallen officers and honours their sacrifice.

72-Hour Security Action Plan Ordered

Shettima said the President has directed the immediate activation of emergency security measures at the institute.

He explained that the Director-General is to work with the Armed Forces, Police, and DSS to strengthen the perimeter without delay.

According to him, a full implementation plan covering surveillance, personnel deployment, access control, and emergency response systems must be submitted to the Office of the Vice President within 72 hours, followed by weekly progress updates until completion.

“No future attack must find us unprepared,” he stated.

Shettima described NIPSS as a key national strategic institution and assured staff and participants that their safety remains a top priority.

“Your safety is non-negotiable. The sacrifice of those three brave men will not be in vain,” he said.

Shettima Commends Participants and Officials

The Vice President also commended participants of SEC 48 for their courage during the attack, noting that they stood their ground in the face of danger instead of fleeing.

He praised the NIPSS Director-General, Ayo Omotayo, and the Director of Studies, Barrister Nima Salman Mann, for their coordination with security agencies during the incident.

Earlier, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang appreciated the Federal Government’s response and approved requests for a buffer zone around the institute, along with improved lighting and other security enhancements.

The NIPSS management also presented a detailed incident report and called for additional personnel, CCTV surveillance, and upgraded security infrastructure around the facility.
