He emphasized the critical role of planning in achieving economic prosperity and advocated for constitutional provisions to establish a joint planning board between state and local governments to enhance effective planning.
He stated, “The annual event provides opportunities for commissioners and other officials responsible for economic planning in the 36 states to come together, exchange ideas, and deliberate on how to enhance economic growth, including inclusive growth.”
The theme for the 2023 edition, “Restoring and Stabilizing the Macroeconomy for Sustainable Economic Growth,” aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which underscores the significance of national economic planning in the federalist system.
Bagudu highlighted the importance of bringing the deliberations and decisions made at the national level to the state level through collaboration with governors.
“We seek more collaboration with state governors because they are equal partners in our political system, and together we can achieve more.
The measures taken on subsidy have already increased state revenues, but challenges persist, including inflation. We must urgently focus on creating employment opportunities to improve livelihoods. I call for the cooperation of governors,” Bagudu stated.
In his remarks, Governor Ademola Adeleke acknowledged the timeliness of the theme for the 22nd edition of the event and stressed the importance of collaborative efforts in navigating the evolving economic landscape to ensure sustainable and inclusive growth for all Nigerians.
The event was attended by commissioners from various states across the country, permanent secretaries, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, and former Minister of State Clem Agba, among other dignitaries.
