During a strategic meeting with Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs), Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs), and Command Commissioners of Police (CPs), Egbetokun also announced a three-week ultimatum for CPs who have not yet established Complaints Response Units (CRU) in their command headquarters to do so. This initiative aims to combat corruption within the police force.

Egbetokun assured citizens that the police would provide adequate security for the upcoming gubernatorial elections in three states, dispelling concerns about safety.

He emphasized that there was no need to worry as the police force had sufficient personnel on the ground to manage the elections effectively.

“With just three states having their gubernatorial elections, the Police is not burdensome because there are proper and adequate personnel on the ground for the election,” he stated.

“I have no fear about how safe and secure the election, which is going to take place on November 11, 2023, will be. It’s very convenient for us to deploy. Nobody should entertain fear about the security of the November election. We have prepared, and we are ready.”

Egbetokun called on both voters and politicians to adhere to election rules and refrain from engaging in any form of violence.

The annual Police Strategic Managers Conference and Retreat for 2023 is scheduled to take place from October 29 to November 2 in Owerri, Imo State.

The conference serves as a crucial platform for knowledge exchange, strategic planning, and the collective commitment to enhance policing in Nigeria.

The IGP emphasized the steps taken to bolster accountability and transparency within the police force, including strengthening the IGP Monitoring Unit and the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at the Force Headquarters.

Additionally, efforts are underway to establish CRU offices in all states, with directives given to State Commissioners of Police to establish CRU offices in their respective State Command Headquarters, as part of the force’s commitment to combatting corruption and improving professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.
