Adejobi clarified that the ban was prompted by complaints of alleged illegal and illicit transactions involving PoS machine operators collaborating with certain police personnel. The decision aims to safeguard the integrity of the police force and prevent potential corrupt practices within its ranks.

Highlighting the seriousness of the matter, Adejobi disclosed that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, issued a stern warning that any violation of the ban would result in severe sanctions imposed on the leadership of the implicated Commands and Formations.

The statement emphasized, “Despite previous directives, it has come to the attention of the Force leadership that some Commands and Formations continue to flout this regulation. As such, the IGP warns that any violation of this ban will attract severe sanctions on the leadership of the affected Commands and Formations.”

The Inspector General pointed out the inherent risks associated with the use of electronic payment devices within police facilities, including the potential compromise of sensitive information, financial irregularities, and facilitation of illicit activities. Consequently, strict adherence to the directive was emphasized as non-negotiable to maintain discipline within the force and ensure the security of police operations.
