While two of his accomplices managed to escape during the operation, another individual involved in transporting Wurgi on a tricycle was captured.

The late Emir of Gobir, Alhaji Isa Mohammad Bawa, was kidnapped on July 9, 2024, in Sabon Birnin Local Government Area, Sokoto State, and tragically murdered on August 22 after failed ransom negotiations. Wurgi, a well-known arms smuggler with international connections, is believed to have played a key role in both the abduction and killing of the Emir.

Wurgi’s arrest has also shed light on his familial connections to other high-profile bandits in the region. He is said to be related to Bello Turji, another infamous bandit leader, through his grandfather. Wurgi’s son, Sani Duna, is reportedly a getaway biker for Turji, further linking Wurgi to the broader banditry network.

This arrest marks a significant development in the Nigerian military’s ongoing efforts to combat banditry and terrorism in the Northwest. Authorities are continuing their search for Wurgi’s accomplices, who remain at large.
