It was reported that Tinubu had sought the National Assembly’s approval for an $800 million loan to provide relief and ease the hardship caused by the removal of petrol subsidy.

The president revealed plans to allocate N8,000 monthly to 12 million households through the loan sourced from the World Bank, with an additional N500 billion allocated in the 2022 supplementary budget for hardship mitigation.

In response, Gololo expressed concern, drawing parallels to the issues surrounding the distribution of COVID-19 relief packages, and advised that the funds be channeled towards job creation initiatives such as refurbishing Nigerian refineries or establishing new industries to employ young people and recent graduates.

He further suggested investing in infrastructure, particularly transportation, to alleviate the burden on Nigerians.

Gololo cautioned Tinubu to be cautious and learn from the controversies surrounding diverted COVID-19 palliative funds and unfulfilled promises made by past administrations.
