A collective known as Bayelsans for Accountability and Good Governance (BAGG) has penned a letter to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, expressing concern about the reported armed incursion into Igbomotoru community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State…CONTINUE READING

The group is urging the immediate apprehension of Chief Timipre Sylva, the former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and the gubernatorial candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, along with his deputy, Joshua Maciver. This call for arrest stems from alleged involvement in the incident.

According to the group, despite protests and accusations directed at Joshua Maciver for purportedly orchestrating the forceful installation of a new paramount ruler in the community, initial investigations indicate that the deployment of military gun boats and security personnel affiliated with the pipeline surveillance company, Tantita Security Services Limited, points to the complicity of Sylva and Maciver.

In a statement released on Tuesday by their spokesperson, Comrade Pere Solomon, the group also asserts that the invasion of Igbomotoru is part of a larger scheme to target those opposing the gubernatorial aspirations of the APC candidate, Sylva.

“We support the community’s assertion that Joshua MacIver is the alleged mastermind behind the armed incursion aimed at suppressing them and installing Friday Jonathan, who has previously been rejected as the Paramount Ruler of the community.

“This is one of the reasons why Former President Goodluck Jonathan stated that he would have relocated his mother from Bayelsa State to Abuja if the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had lost the state during the November 11th, 2023 Bayelsa State gubernatorial election.

“We also verify that the once-peaceful community, both before and after the election, is gradually descending into crisis, with potential for bloodshed if those implicated are not promptly cautioned and arrested.

“We appeal to the federal and state governments to scrutinize the activities of Tantita Security, Chief Timipre Sylva, and Joshua Maciver to facilitate dialogue and avert potential violence in the state.

It is crucial to recognize that neither Tantita Security personnel nor Chief Timipre Sylva and Joshua Maciver possess a monopoly on violence and armed conflict.”
